Loving God, Loving His Word [a prayer]

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God…”
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
– Deuteronomy 6:5

Heavenly Father,
You tell me in Deuteronomy 6:5 that the First and Great Commandment is to love You with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind and with all I am and all I have (Mat 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-34).

This same Scripture goes on to explain that loving You means cherishing and treasuring Your Word:

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.”
Deuteronomy 6:6

Father, I never want to be guilty of commit the Greatest Sin y breaking the Greatest Commandment!

I long to love You and Your Word more deeply and sincerely each and every day. This is my personal goal, but I also pray that throughout my short journey in this world, You would use me to inspire a deepening love for You and Your Word in others including all those in my own household as it says in this same passage:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shalt talk of them
when thou sittest in thine house,
and when thou walkest by the way,
and when thou liest down,
and when thou risest up
.”
– Deuteronomy 6:7

Lord, Your Words are “Spirit and Life” (John 6:63). It is called the “Word of Grace” (Acts 20:32). Every command in Your Word comes wrapped up in Your Grace – the supernatural power that unpacks itself within me when I receive Your Word and mix it with faith (1 Thess 2:13; Heb 4:1). Every command and promise in Your Word is exactly like a seed containing all the DNA and power required to fulfill itself within me:

Luke 1:37 (Amplified)
For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.

Isaiah 55:11
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

This commandment to love You and Your Word is exactly like a seed bundled up with all the necessary supernatural DNA to “accomplish,” “prosper,” and empower me with grace to live it out in loving obedience. I believe it and I receive it!

This Great Commandment in Deuteronomy also tells me:

And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”
Deuteronomy 6:8-9

Jesus, this command of “binding” and “writing” is exactly what the New Covenant, enacted through Your own Blood, promises to do. It states that Holy Spirit came to dwell within me (at the baptism in the Holy Spirit) with an expedient mission to “bind” and “write” and deeply engrave Your Word upon my heart and mind (Jer 31:31-34; Heb 8:10; Heb 8:16) as well as upon my “hand,” my “doorposts” and my “gates.”

Dear Jesus, You are the Word of Life! Like John, I want to hear, see, and touch You (1 John 1:1-3)! By Your incarnation, You became the Word made flesh (John 1:1-14). I long for Your Word to be “made flesh” in me so that I might “hold forth the Word of Life” (Phil 2:16) not only with my mouth, but also with all my life’s actions.

Thank You, dear Lord, for all that You promised to do in my life through Your Word and Your Spirit! Holy Spirit, You promised to pour out God’s love within my heart (Rom 5:5), so I’m sure I will not be disappointed in my request to love God more and more! Please do not ever leave me alone until You are finally finished with all You want to do in me. Like the psalmist prayed:

Psalms 138:8
The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

I love You, Lord, and I will treasure Your Word!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
