Prayer: Jehovah Rapha Our Healer

This is a beautiful promise for healing:

Proverbs 3:5-8 (ESV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be *HEALING to your flesh and REFRESHMENT [or, “medicine”] to your bones.

NOTE: *Healing = is from the root word, “rapha” which means:  mend (by stitching), repair, make whole, become fresh, completely heal, cure, be a physician.

Being human as we are, we tend to read these Scriptures “negatively” and say to ourselves, “I’m sick BECAUSE I am NOT trusting and obeying Him enough, not acknowledging Him enough, not fearing Him enough… etc.”  And, as we all have experienced it, enough will never be enough! This is a mindset toward legalism and trusting in our own works – a tendency that directly hinders faith from functioning freely.

We simply need to fall in love with the preciousness of God’s Word by getting to know His heart. When we do, it will become more and more natural to look at a verse like that and automatically accept it as a POSITIVE PROMISE of healing.

This can be further unfolded by Young’s Literal Translation (YLT) –

Exodus 15:26 (YLT)
And He saith, “If thou dost really hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and dost that which is right in His eyes, and hast hearkened to His commands, and kept all His statutes: none of the sickness which I laid on the Egyptians do I lay on thee, for I, JEHOVAH AM HEALING THEE.”

Rather than striving for “readability” as most translations do, the YLT translates “literally” word by word. Notice that in this verse, YLT uses the “Present Continuous Tense” — in other words, it positions this promise of healing not as a future situation based on requirements but as one that is happening and CONTINUING to happen right now in the present!

“I, Jehovah, AM HEALING thee.”

In this phrase is one of God’s compound Jehovah’s names: “Jehovah-Rapha.”

Dear Heavenly Father, You are Jehovah-Rapha – our Healer and Physician and the One who mends us up (by stitching), repairs us, makes us whole, causes us to become fresh, and completely heals us. We thank You for all the “exceedingly great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4) you have given us in Your Word. We purposefully hide and cherish these promises in our heart and make them the confession in our mouth.

Lord Jesus, we thank You for having qualified us for all of these promises. It is not of works but by Your Grace and the price You already paid on the Cross in our place. Jesus, we believe and declare that these Healing Promises are NOT “possibly,” or “maybe,” or “someday.” Instead, they are “Yes! And Amen!” in Christ Jesus today (2 Cor 1:20)!

So, right now, “we having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak” (2 Cor 4:13). We CONFESS Your Word as “forever settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89) and forever settled in our heart! Jesus, You are the “High Priest of our Confession” (Heb 3:1) and we know that by Your mighty Name, Your Precious Blood, and having Your Word in our mouth, we overcome Satan, our accuser, and we “crush him” under our feet (Rev 12:11; Rom 16:20)!

Holy Spirit, You are the “finger of God” (Mat 12:28, Luke 11:20), and we believe that You have already written upon our heart and mind (Jer 31:31-34) the desire and longing to hear, obey, serve, worship, seek, and follow after Jesus with loving fear. Therefore, we surrender control of our lives to You that You might do as the Word promises:

Philippians 2:13 (Amplified Bible)
“[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while EFFECTUALLY AT WORK IN YOU [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.”

Thank You, dear God! You are Jehovah-Rapha! And “as is Your Name, so is Your praise” (Psalm 48:9 NASB).

God, You have declared:

   “I, Jehovah, AM HEALING thee.”

So we believe and confess:

“Jehovah-Rapha IS HEALING right now in this very moment!”

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
