Backside-Frontside

Wow! I am so looking forward to that day when we finally arrive on the other side of the tapestry that God has been weaving in our lives together….

But for right now, all I see is the backside tangled display of dangling strings and knots. All my attempts to discover any kind of design in this stringy, knotty mess is nothing short of an exercise in futility and frustration!

Oh, how often I am tempted to somehow rearrange those dangling strings and knots – yanking, pulling, or even trying to cut the knots out – in frantic attempts to see anything truly meaningful on this side of the tapestry!

It is deeply frustrating, that is, until a quick shock treatment from God’s Word realigns my vision to get a tiny hint of His eternal handiwork (“…His task, His unusual task…His work, His extraordinary work” – Isaiah 28:21 NASB). In those precious moments, my heart is once again filled with the light of faith and hope, and a blessed assurance floods the soul.

This also cometh forth from the Lord of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working” (Isaiah 28:29 KJV)

A masterpiece tapestry on display

Dear Jesus, You surely do know what You are doing! Yes, I must keep my hands off of that tapestry! Yes, I must let God what He does best – making beautiful tapestries– masterpieces which undoubtedly He will be showcasing in His throne room throughout the ages to come (“So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us” – Eph 2:7 NLT)!! Perhaps this is what the Psalmist saw when he wrote about the “needlework” of the Bride’s inner glory that she will wear to present herself to the King (see Psalm 45:13-15 KJV).
Yes, I am sure that, in His hands, this knotty mess will all “work together for good” (Rom 8:28) and when He turns over the tapestry for us to see, it will surely be something too wonderful for words! Oh what a day that will be!

Ephesians 2:4-10 (NLT)
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much…he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms… So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us… For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Psalms 45:13-15 (Amplified Bible)
The King’s daughter in the inner part is all glorious; her clothing is inwrought with gold. She shall be brought to the King in raiment of needlework; with the virgins, her companions that follow her, she shall be brought to You. With gladness and rejoicing will they be brought; they will enter into the King’s palace.
